The Death of An Idea

There are some books on history that are factually correct. They get all the dates in the right order and they aspire for objectivity and analysis. But they are about as exciting to read as the tea-leaves in the bottom of your flask.

Fortunately there are other ways to tell a story.

This is a story of a movement and the man who fought to see it come to light. A man wanted in 24 countries around the world, a man who tried to rob the bank of Spain (Money Heist Version 1), a man who was as equally skilled an assassin, as he was at peeling potatoes. His name was Buenaventura Durruti and his job was to change the world.

The only book on the Spanish Civil War that features:

  • Frankie Goes to Hollywood
  • Lao Tzu
  • George Orwell
  • Emma Goldman
  • Chomsky (Inevitably)
  • Jack and the Bean Stalk
  • Gogmagog

Whats it all about?

This story, 'based on true events', recounts the lead up to the Spanish Civil War from the perspective of the one man in particular and the movement he came to represent. A man who was killed at the outbreak of the Civil War, and with him - according to historians - his ideas did too.

For the past 80 years this has been the hope and wishes from many quarters of the world for it was an ideology that brought together all those that dreamt of a better society. However, this ideology sought not only to eliminate the exploitation of man by man, but also the dominion of man over man.
